Where do we start? You should know, we’re not professionally trained bartenders and we’re not drunks, but we like to think we’re somewhere right in the middle. We began Intoxicology in the Spring of 2010 as a way of sharing our passion for mixology, but the story on how we got here actually started way back in 2004 when I (Alex) took a part time job as a retail clerk in a wine & spirits shop while in college. This is when I first realized there was more to drinking than just rum & coke’s. I slowly started learning more and more, sampling and tasting something different each week trying to self educate myself while also educating the customers I interacted with. This is where I found my true passion, and I haven’t left the industry since. Having been around alcohol for almost a decade now I’ve gone from retail sales, to marketing and distribution sales with a short stint (really short) somewhere in the middle as a bartender for a few private events. I quickly realized though that my itch came from making drinks for fun, not for hire.
One day, while surfing the web and reading a food blog, I got the idea that maybe a cocktail blog would be a fun way to share my opinions, and in April of 2010 Intoxicology 101 was born. That same year of our launch, I married my soul-mate, and eventually persuaded her to bring her culinary background, tasting expertise and editing skills to the site. Lori now serves as the official taste tester for my crazy recipes, and is co-editor as well, fixing all of my drunken typos. Fast forward to today and Intoxicology 101 has grown into way more than what we expected it to be. What started as just a small blog sharing my experiences in the world of wine and spirits now includes spirit reviews, featured cocktail recipes, exclusive articles, “how-to” guides, and tons more resources to help you have a better drink. We’ve even been lucky enough to pick up a few sponsors here and there that support our drinking habit. With visitors daily from over 17 countries around the world, we’re grateful to all our readers and we look forward to exciting new things this year.
