DIY: How To Make Spiked Egg Nog
Tomorrow is the big day, and while we hope everyone has their plans in order for a great holiday, we wanted to share a last minute recipe for something as traditional in our home on Christmas as the Christmas tree itself. I’m talking about egg nog. Earlier this month we shared our family recipe for coquito, a creamy holiday drink that I personally adopted into our holiday gatherings, but now i’m making nog, one of my all time favorite drinks. Much like coquito, and well, any popular drink that uses multiple ingredients, egg nog can be made tons of ways, and usually everyone claims theirs is how it is “suppose” to be. The truth is, your drink should taste as YOU like it. Moral of the story? There is more then 1 way to skin a cat, but we don’t condone cat skinning around here. So you know, our recipe is one we have tweaked over the years from a common one found in a lot of cook books, so check it out and see if it’s something you want to add to the menu tomorrow. You can thank us later! Egg Nog
- 6 eggs (Seperated)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 pint heavy cream
- 4 pints milk
- 3/4 Cup Bourbon
- 3/4 Cup Brandy or Cognac
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
Directions: Start out by beating the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Next, add in 1/2 of sugar gradually and continue to beat until it completely dissolves. Next, add in your milk, cream, alcohol, vanilla, and nutmeg then stir. Place your egg whites in a separate bowl and beat. With the mixer still running add in the rest of your sugar and beat until it thickens. Now combine the yolks and the whites. Chill in the freezer before serving.
So what do you think? Is it the best egg nog ever? Is it the perfect egg nog recipe you’ve been waiting for? Does it taste like grandma use to make it? If it tastes like crap, come on, you can tell us that too. Shoot us an email, or leave a comment below.
