How to Make Green Beer

Happy St. Patrick’s day everyone. Green beer is a HUGE part of the holiday, and though it’s usually some cheap light beer you’re drinking (Miller/Bud), everyone likes to celebrate and get festive. Last night for example, peer pressure even got to some of my “wine” drinking friends to get their Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio turned “green” for the evening. So you see it’s addicting. Anyway, it’s pretty simple but we’ll take you through the steps below on how to make Green Beer.

Things you will need: A glass or mug, something to stir with, a lighter or pale colored beer, and green food coloring. (Note: Blue food coloring CAN be used as well, because the yellowish color of the beer with the blue dye will make green, however it will be more of a dark vegetable green rather than a bright green)

Step 1: Pour your beer slowly and at a slant to avoid getting too much head (foam) on top. It will get in the way when it comes time to add the dye.

Step 2: Add in your green food coloring. For me the magic # was about 5 drops to give it that perfect green tint. But different dye’s do vary on how strong a color they produce.

Step 3: Stir your drink and enjoy.

See? That’s all there is to our green beer recipe. Not hard at all. You’ve been ordering green beer for years at the bar and had no idea how simple it was. And to make it even slightly easier, if you know how many drops work for you, a quick tip to make green beer without even having to stir is to pour the drops at the bottom of your empty mug THEN add the beer. Either way, pick a beer YOU love and enjoy some green beer at home or at your next house party!
