Little known fact; My love for booze is almost equally matched by my love for sweets (notice I said ALMOST!). In fact part of the reason I’ll never leave the First Lady of 101 is because she’s always baking up a batch of sweets infused with some sort of liqueur we have in the cabinet. You can’t beat that. So when we learned that Ohio based Ice cream shop; Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams was churning out awesome flavors like Cherry Lambic Sorbet , Riesling Poached Pear, Whiskey & Pecans, & Hot Toddy (originally titled the “Influenza Sorbet), you KNOW we had to investigate.

Nothing beats the creativity behind their most popular flavor: The Hot Toddy Sorbet, formally known as Influenza  Sorbet. It’s a Makers Mark Whisky infused sorbet ice cream that’s been getting a LOT of buzz for its “healing powers”. With Flu season in full effect, it’s no coincidence that this is their #1 selling flavor this time of year and at $12 a pint, you might be asking yourself is it worth it. Would you pay $12 for a pint of ice cream? How about if it was infused with alcohol? Thinking about it a bit more now right? Now, how about if it eased your symptoms or even cured your Flu?!?

The sorbet contains a blend of honey, ginger, orange juice, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and Maker’s Mark bourbon. Don’t worry, there is a small enough amount of the whisky to still make this one child friendly. Obviously there is no scientific evidence to support that theory but like many home remedies it includes several ingredients thought to aid in the process and soothe the mind. In actuality it’s probably more of a mental remedy than a scientific one, but what a fun way to try and recover right? We’ll drink the Kool-aid and buy into this one. We havn’t had the pleasure of tasting it yet, but we’ve got a “few” pints on order as we speak. If you’re interested in giving it a try but don’t live near one of their 3 local Ohio locations or any supermarkets that carry their ice creams, stop by their website at www.jenis.com/ .There you can order by mail, buy gift certificates for you or a friend, or even purchase some of their clothing and cookware products. Don’t forget to shoot us an email or comment and let us know if you tried one and how you liked it.

Cheers!
