Baileys chocolate cherry

I made a random stop into ABC Fine Wine & Spirits near my house yesterday and I swear I was going to just be in and out. Just grab a 6 pack of Mckenzies Pumpkin Cider and be out. Then I made the mistake of walking down the cordials aisle.  And this sexy new display was calling my name, it was Baileys Chocolate Cherry. I like Baileys but it isn’t even in my top 5 for cream liqueurs. I’ll save that for another post one day if you want to know which means I love. But although Baileys original is nothing to scream about I generally like the flavor expressions they’ve made in the past. A few months a little birdy told us Chocolate Cherry was next and I got excited and then I completely forgot. So needless to say I bought a bottle and wanted to share my thoughts. Baileys Chocolate Cherry was created specifically for the U.S. markets so i’m pretty excited to give it a try. They’ve been known to have some pretty awesome flavors and kept it to themselves on the other side of the world, now lets see what they made for us.

First Impression: Nothing special on the bottle but that’s pretty standard of Baileys flavors. Each expression usually uses the same bottle and just updates the graphics to reflect whatever is their new baby. We poured it into the glass an noticed its got a nice chocolate milk color to it but the best part is the aroma. It’s heavy on the chocolate smell followed with just the right amount of sweet cherry at the end. That’s a good sign of things to come.

Tasting Notes: When you first taste this you get a really smooth chocolate flavor first. It finishes with a really nice cherry finish with hints of some Irish whiskey in there too. There’s no burn at all and it’s about as easy to drink as a glass of milk. Chocolate and cherries have always been a popular combination and it’s no surprise someone decided to bottle it. The problem with “most” cherry cocktails and spirits is that sweet cherry flavor we all picture in our head from childhood candies is never there, and instead we get a heavy dose of that cough syrup cherry flavor nobody likes. They did a great job here, it literally tastes like you’re biting into one of those chocolate covered cherries you can buy at the store.

Price: 16.99 (750 ML)

ABV: 17% (34 Proof)

Final Word: I was partial to the Mint expression Baileys previously launched, but this might actually be my favorite Baileys yet. It’s VERY easy to drink which comes in handy on lazy nights hosting parties or chill Saturday/Sundays where you just want to relax. Most of the flavors coming out now are heavily targeted at women and that’s exactly where this will really do well. Come Valentines day this would be perfect, and if you’re headed to any Christmas parties this month it wouldn’t hurt to bring this either.

Cheers

I was so disappointed with this drink. In fact, it appeared that something was wrong with the bottle that I bought. I had to throw it away.

    • I’m sorry this happened! It’s not for everyone to be honest, however if there was something wrong with the bottle that’s a quality issue with the brand and can ruin and experience.

I love this stuff, and I rarely drink alcohol. This is my hot cocoa kicker. It doesn’t even have to be cold outside either!

Loved this when it first came out, but now I cant find it anywhere…checking their site, it even lists that its only available in certain states now, and mine isnt one of them! Why’d they go and do that? And how do I order it from another state? Neither of the sites Bailey’s lists as being able to order from carry it.
