Sandeman Harvest Sour Cocktail

Thanksgiving is less than a week away. Are you ready for the Three “F’s”? Food, Family, and Football. For most men and women, two of the 3 “F’s” are easy to handle, just usually not the same two. If you have a hard time sitting through the football, or hanging out with the family, or being around the kitchen cooking the food, then I suggest you use a fourth variable, also known as “D” for drinks. Three F’s and a D, unlike on your school report card, go together perfectly for the holidays so I suggest you get some recipes in your head. A favorite spirit of ours during the holidays is port wine… not to strong for the light weights, and gets a nice buzz for the heavier drinkers in the family, and mixes well into punches, ciders, and other cocktails. Our friends at Sandeman were kinda enough passed along this recipe, which we plan on breaking out next week, and wanted to share with you all as well. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Sandeman Harvest Sour

  • 3/4 parts raspberry syrup*
  • 3/4 parts fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 parts Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto
  • 1/2 part apple brandy
  • Top with 2-3 parts dry apple cider

Pour all ingredients in a shaker, except cider. Shake quickly and strain into a Collins glass. Top with cider, garnish with raspberries and dust with nutmeg.

*In a medium saucepan combine 4 cups sugar and 1 quart water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. In another saucepan, muddle a small container of raspberries (about 6 ounces), and combine the syrup and raspberries. Let rest for a day, then strain. Keeps for about a month.
