The Classic Whiskey Sour

In case you missed it, August 25th is National Whiskey Sour day, and we shared an interesting twist on the classic cocktail earlier in the week featuring Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey. As tasty as it was, some of us like to keep it simple. So today, we’re highlighting the classic Whiskey sour, using a beautiful info graphic courtesy of Four Roses Bourbon.

In the 1700s, British Navy sailors enjoyed this citrus-y drink as a clever way to avoid scurvy. Today, the Whisky Sour is one of the most ordered/requested drinks at any bar you’ll find. It’s versatile to any occasion, and is simple to make. At its most basic, the Whisky Sour includes three ingredients — Bourbon, lemon juice, and simple sugar. As you can see from ordering it in multiple locations, it can have much more added to the recipe to give it new life for those that like to try new things.

We had the privilege of sampling Four Roses last month at Tales of the Cocktail, and wanted to feature it this week for our readers. Check out the recipe below, and try it at home. Folks that love the classic recipe might want to check out our “How to Make home made Sour mix” article from earlier this Summer.
