Whistlepig Rye Whiskey Review

WhistlePig Rye Whiskey, also referred to as “straight rye” is a 100% rye whiskey founded in 2007 that’s made in Canada using American oak barrels and bottled in Vermont. What is now the 10 year rye, started out as whiskey being “misused” for blended whiskey recipes in Canada. Anthony Dias Blue of Tasting Panel Magazine liked the whiskey, giving it a 94pt rating, saying “This is powerful, heady stuff with big all-American flavors” but also includes “Made in Canada and bottled in Vermont.”

Tasting Notes:
  • Nose: Allspice, orange peel, anise, oak, char and caramel
  • Palate: Sweet; hints of caramel and vanilla, followed by rye spice and mint
  • Finish: Long finish; warm butterscotch and caramel.
  • Price: $74.99
  •  ABV: 50% / Proof: 100

One of the softest rye whiskies you’ll find, this one is a great intro into drinking rye whiskey. It’s complex but subtle with a creamy finish and great kick of rye.
