The Goombay Smash

…..Interested in a strong tropical elixir thats not too strong and not too sweet? Then the Goombay Smash should be right up your alley. It’s got a good dose of liquor favoring on rum, its full of citrus juices to give you that island vibe, and after enough it will put you on your butt. The original recipe was allegedly created by Miss Emily at the Blue Bee Bar in New Plymouth, Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, in the Bahamas. Like many rum drinks though, there are many variations on the recpe, and all claiming to be the original/real goombay smash. After hearing that caribbean chain, Bahama Breeze was offering a new island drink menu including this one, I thought it would be fun to share here. So thought this may not be the same recipe you’ll get everywhere, it’s a great one to try. The  go to ingredients in all Goombay recipes seem to be rum, pineapple and coconut…

The Goombay Smash

  • 1 oz Dark Rum (or spiced)
  • 1/2 oz 151 Rum (optional)
  • 1 oz coconut rum
  • 1/2 oz apricot brandy
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • Pineapple wedge
  • Orange slice
Fill your shaker with ice and add all ingredients. Cover and shake. Strain your cocktail over ice and garnish with a pineapple slash and organge slice.

Don’t like this one, whats wrong with you! Just joking. Feel free to variate the amount of sweeteners or alcohol to your liking. Do yourself a favor and find as many bars that can make this and try their recipe out to see what you like or don’t like. Cheers!
