Drink of the Week: Tiki Tai

Tiki Tai

National Rum Day is only a few days away, so we’re taking advantage and celebrating early. We received some awesome recipe suggestions in the mail over the past few weeks, and as Disney Jr. has taught us, sharing is caring. This weeks drink of the week is a twist on the Mai Tai being served at Hard Rock Cafe’s around the country. Anyone that’s familiar with the history of Tiki drinks knows that the recipes have been created, re-created, and often butchered throughout time. What does a REAL Mai Tai taste like? Most of you will never know. But, making a great drink isn’t rocket science, so if you can put a “spin” on a classic recipe and it still come out tasting good, kudos to you. We tried the “Tiki Tai”, dare I say Hard Rocks rendition of a Mai Tai, and actually loved it. Bacardi Spiced rum isn’t our favorite, but it mixes and balances well in this recipe. Try it at home and let us know what you think.

Tiki Tai:

  • 2 oz Bacardi Oakheart Spiced Rum
  • 1 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 1 oz Lime Juice
  • 1 oz Agave Nectar
  • 1 ½ oz Orange Juice
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Pour all ingredients into large glass. Add orange wedge and mint sprig garnish.

Cheers!

  1. Love that drink! And when were you at foxwoods? It’s fifteen minutes from my house. That and mohegan sun, both great culinary dining resources!

    • We Loved it too! Unfortunately we weren’t there personally. We received the recipe and a few others from the folks at Hard Rock and made it at home. They shot us a few promotional photos, and we went with the Foxwoods one. Looks like we need to add it to our list of travel spots.
