Cedilla - Acai Caipirinha

Last summer during our trip to Tales, I think both Lori and I would agree, our favorite new brand we tried was a spirit named Cedilla. If it’s eye catching bottle doesn’t get you, the taste would. It’s an Acai berry based liqueur thats both rich and flavorful. It only further made up our minds when we found out it was made from the same company that brought us Leblon, aka Lori’s favorite Cachaca. So needless to say we made more than a few trips to the Leblon Cachaca Food  Drink Truck where they were serving cold Leblon and Cedilla cocktails. On ice, or in a cocktail, its the perfect summer weather liqueur, and with the heat returning (for us in the South anyway), it’s a great time to try this simple caipirinha recipe.

The Açai Caipirinha

2 oz Leblon Cachaça
1 oz Cedilla
½ oz simple syrup
6 lime wedges

In mixing glass, muddle the limes and simple syrup. Add Cedilla and Leblon Cachaça. Fill with ice, shake well and pour all into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Pumpkin-Carving-tips-11Halloween is just around the corner, and with all the fuss kids make about pumpkin carving, we thought, why do they get to have all the fun? We bathe them, we raise them, we wipe their butts, so I think we deserve to get in on some of that too. One of our most popular articles this past year was our “How-to” guide to making a Watermelon Keg for Summer parties, so with the seasons changing, and Halloween coming up, let’s switch up those Watermelons for Pumpkins. This is a quick and easy project that will help make your next Halloween party epic. In case you missed it, August 25th is National Whiskey Sour day, and we shared an interesting twist on the classic cocktail earlier in the week featuring Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey. As tasty as it was, some of us like to keep it simple. So today, we’re highlighting the classic Whiskey sour, using a beautiful info graphic courtesy of Four Roses Bourbon.

In the 1700s, British Navy sailors enjoyed this citrus-y drink as a clever way to avoid scurvy. Today, the Whisky Sour is one of the most ordered/requested drinks at any bar you’ll find. It’s versatile to any occasion, and is simple to make. At its most basic, the Whisky Sour includes three ingredients — Bourbon, lemon juice, and simple sugar. As you can see from ordering it in multiple locations, it can have much more added to the recipe to give it new life for those that like to try new things.

We had the privilege of sampling Four Roses last month at Tales of the Cocktail, and wanted to feature it this week for our readers. Check out the recipe below, and try it at home. Folks that love the classic recipe might want to check out our “How to Make home made Sour mix” article from earlier this Summer.
