I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July. Hopefully you saw a great fireworks show, ate good, and maybe even had a few drinks. This year, the 4th landing on a Friday makes it a 3 day weekend, so there’s a good chance your town has some events or even fireworks displays happening tonight. Plus, today is officially Cape Verde Independence day and if you don’t know, Cape Verde is a small island country off the west coast of Africa. It also happens to be where my mother in law is from, and where Lori’s gets her good looks. So we’re still celebrating, and if you are too, this recipe should be perfect for the holiday. I made a couple last night to try, and loved it, then realized I didn’t mention it in our cocktail roundup for the 4th of July, so I’m sharing it today. It features Hornitos Plata, one of my favorite blanco tequilas for the price (about $22), and it’s balanced well with the refreshing taste of strawberry. You can make this by the glass, but if you have friends coming over, pitchers are the way to go.
Strawberry Fireworks
- 3 parts Hornitos® Plata Tequila
- Handful of fresh strawberries
- Juice from 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
- Fresh pepper
- 1 cup club soda
Put strawberries in a small pitcher and mash to your desired consistency. Add juice, club soda, Hornitos® Plata and combine along with 4 good grinds from the pepper mill. Fill 2 glasses halfway with ice and divide drink among glasses.
Cheers!
