Celebrating National Hot Cocoa Day

The cold weather has come in full swing all around the country and right about now you are looking for some creative ways to stay warm this winter. Nothing keeps you warmer then a nice hot cup of cocoa going down your throat and instantly heating up your entire body. To help you fight the cold I felt it only necessary to highlight National Hot Cocoa day today.

Do you say “hot chocolate” or “hot cocoa”?  Generally, the terms are used interchangeably, but believe it or not there actually is a distinction between the two. “Hot cocoa” is made from a powdered mix of cocoa, sugar and thickeners without cocoa butter while “Hot chocolate,”  is made directly from bar chocolate, which already contains cocoa, sugar and cocoa butter. So your difference between the two is the cocoa butter, which makes hot cocoa significantly lower in fat than hot chocolate. You learn something different every day don’t you? With that out of the way, enjoy some of these Hot cocoa/Hot chocolate recipes this winter.
