Sugar Island Spiced Rum Review
We’re still tasting our way through Covid 19 still and this week it occurred to us, we don’t sample nearly enough rums around here. I mean, we live in Florida, it’s rum weather and beach worthy 11 months out of the year here so it’s only right we get better acquainted with as many rums as we can right? This week we were blessed with a sample from Sugar Island Rum, makers of Sugar Island Coconut Rum and Sugar Island Spiced Rum. Today we’re tasting the spiced edition but don’t worry, tomorrow we’ll be throwing down the coconut so don’t worry.
Sugar Island Rum is crafted in the Virgin Islands, so sounds legit right?
TASTING NOTES
We don’t get to try nearly enough spiced rum, but we really like this one. It’s got a nice bite to it at first with a smooth finish. You can expect the traditional flavors here, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, but unlike some other brands we noticed more cinnamon, less vanilla, and strong clove.
AROMA:
Very spice forward with heavy notes of ginger and clove.
PALATE:
A rich, rounded rum that offers vanilla and caramel flavors, accented by notes of warm cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.
PRICE:
$19.99
ABV:
47% / Proof: 92
FINAL THOUGHTS:
At $19 some may struggle to decide between this and some of the old faithfuls like Captain or Sailor Jerry, but we wouldn’t turn it down if it came our way. It’s not as sweet as others, so if you’re looking for a sweeter spiced rum this may not be your favorite.
