…Next time you go hunting for something new to try at your local pub or package store, you might notice a crazy new bottle in the beer and cider section, most likely near the crafts. Boston Beer Co. quietly launched Angry Orchard, their new cider addition about 6 months ago and is planning to go national as early as this month. Their lineup includes the common favorites like “crisp apple” and “traditional dry” , but also includes a cool new infusion and my personal favorite, apple-ginger which to me tastes like a apple flavored ginger ale. What seperates Angry Orchard from the competition? Well for one, they make their cider with apples plucked from France and Italy, giving them a distinct and better taste then some of the ciders you may be use to drinking.
“We searched the world to find the right orchards, with the right attitude and the best combination of apple types. Our search for particular flavors led us to the traditional growing regions of Europe, where we hand-select bittersweet apples from France and culinary apples from Italy. These areas were ideal because of their soil composition and climate. The wide range of apples used in Angry Orchard cider contributes to the complex flavor profile of each of our cider styles.”
If that doesn’t suck you in, maybe their eye-catching packaging will. One of my favorite things though about Angry Orchard is its awesome website complete with great graphics, interactive links and most importantly, a portion of the site dedicated to mixology. I love their acknowledgement of the growing popularity of beer/cider cocktails. Check out below to see a few of their cocktail suggestions for yourself.
