Chattanooga Whiskey Review: 91 Proof
This week we’ve got a new addition to our bourbon collection, Chattanooga Whiskey out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Truthfully, we receive dozens of samples a month of products that brands want us share with our readers. We do still actually purchase a lot of spirits, this one being one of them. We had every intention of grabbing some Weller and only Weller but the sales clerk did a good job in at least peaking my interest with this one so we grabbed a bottle.
Chattanooga Whiskey has the distinction of being the first legal distillery in Chattanooga in over 100 years. They features 3 series of bourbons, the High Malt, the 1816’s, and the experimental bourbons. They also own the distinction of making the ONLY high malt whiskey in Tennessee which comes in the 91 and 111 proof expressions. Today we’re sampling the Tennessee high malt recipe, 91 proof. It’s a 4 grain bourbon, aged 2 years, and in the last year has made its rounds among bourbon enthusiasts everywhere. So let’s see what we’ve got:
- Nose: Sweet, brown sugar, cinnamon, malt
- Palate: Dried apricot, sweet tea, honeyed toast.

For a whiskey only aged 2 years, I really enjoyed this one. Another example of not judging a book by it’s cover I guess. From start to finish there isn’t much to dislike. The nose is pretty sweet with heavy notes of brown sugar and honey, some cinnamon maybe too. It’s got a sweet start that as the tasting notes mention, has honey and dried apricot but when we tasted it, we also got hints of cherry and even apple. It’s got a medium body, and I actually love the way the taste and finish kind of coats the mouth and lingers for a while. You can drink this one on its own or mix it in your favorite
