Summer Giveaway

Wow, is it really the middle of August? I feel like I fell asleep in June and just woke up to all these back to school ads everywhere. If you haven’t noticed, things have been a little bit slow around here the past couple of months, and I’m fine with that. 2015 has been all about less stress, less work, and more fun for me and my family. We’ve been doing lots of traveling, several trips to the beach, hanging around the pool and just trying to live a little. This was our first year we DIDNT go to New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail, and yes I was a little sad, but it’s ok because we did a lot this Summer.

With back to school, and Fall right around the corner we though this would be the perfect time to get back on track here on the blog and focusing on our readers, and what better way to do that than hosting an awesome END OF #SUMMER #GIVEAWAY! To date, one of our most popular liquor reviews is the one we did on Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey back in December/January, and I’m sure a lot of that has to do with the awesome Tennessee Honey basket giveaway we launched in conjunction with the review so we reached out to the folks at Jack Daniels to team up again and we’ve got an awesome set of prizes for you.

Just in time for your Labor Day #endofsummer bash, we’ve got a bunch of awesome Summer essentials, including a Jack Daniels branded drawstring backpack that’s perfect for quick and easy travel storage, a pair of “too cool for school” Summer shades sure to keep the sun out on a scorching day, a mini bluetooth speaker that is a MUST HAVE when out at the beach on Labor Day, and what Summer vacay is complete without a SELFIE STICK to make the memories last.

To enter all you have to do is enter your information and it’s that easy. And if you like to strengthen your odds, you can earn bonus entries by signing up for our newsletter or visiting our social network accounts. highballsI don’t watch Mad Men (i’m sorry if I’ve offended you), but it’s been about as impactful to the retro cocktail as Sex in the City was to the Martini and Cosmopolitan. Suddenly drinks like the Old Fashioned have become common at the bar, and even bars themselves have started to revamp menus to give off more of that speakeasy feel.

One of my favorite types of Summer drinks thats benefited from this trend is the Highball. A Highball is usually in reference to a drink that has a base spirit, and a large portion of a non alcoholic mixer. It originates from back in the 1800’s, but since then we’ve had a huge advancement in the types of spirits & mixers we use today.

That’s why Mixologist Lucinda Sterling of New York’s Middle Branch worked to create several “improved” highball cocktails using Hangar 1 Vodka and Tincup Whiskey, both American made spirits. Each drink is a tip of the hat to the classics, with a modern twist. But don’t worry, the recipes themselves are still simple enough for you to make at home, or by the pool. We’re in the thick of Summer, so any of these would be a perfect way to cool off. Check them out and let us know what you think.
