DevotionVodka

Ok, i’ll be up front in admitting I’ve NEVER had Devotion vodka. I’ve heard of it, I’ve seen it on the shelf, but nothing about its price or bottle made me want to devote any of my time to it. See what I did there? But my ears did perk up a bit when I came across news that Devotion Vodka and Uber, aka every cab companies worst nightmare, were teaming up this Summer to help you make a MUCH better choice which is to not Drink and Drive.

During this Summer, first time users of UBER can actually visit DevotionVodka.com for a promotional offer code that will earn them a free Uber ride in an effort to stop people from drinking and driving. How cool is that? Now, I should mention that there is a limit on the cost of the ride. It’s worth up to $30 which depending on what city you’re in, and how far you decided to go to get your drink on, may or may not do the trick. Chicago, NY, LA might need to dish out some of their own cash with that, but here in Florida that should be plenty. Either way I think it’s an awesome idea on both Uber and Devotions part, which is always good when you’re trying to get your brand out there and noticed. I noticed and now I’ll pay it forward and let my readers know.

After digging around a bit more I actually found out Devotion might be worth a sip for the health conscious folks out there, it’s sugar-free AND gluten-free. They even list nutritional info on their Facebook page: Calories 105, Sugar 0g, Carbs 0 g, Cholesterol 0 mg, Sodium 0 mg. That’s pretty awesome when you consider most brands are fighting the FDA RIGHT NOW to NOT have to reveal their nutrition.  It’s also 100% made in the US so the “buy local” folks should love that as well. You can find it in most grocery chains for around $19.99 so I’d suggest giving it a try. Next time we’re at the store we’ll be picking up a bottle for review.

Cheers,

Alex & Lori

Bluecoatgin

I love anytime a new bottle of Gin shows up at our door and this one came with perfect timing. Bluecoat American Dry Gin is an American made spirit from Philadelphia, and is anything but your typical gin:

“Bluecoat American Dry Gin is a craft distilled spirit, made one small batch at a time. We believe hand-crafted quality and fun-loving independence are the best American traditions. Be Revolutionary!”

Kind of makes you feel warm inside right? This sounds like a gin for the “Murica” faithfuls, but to be fair anyone that yells “Murica” is probably more focused on brown liquor anyway.

  • First Impression: You can’t miss Bluecoat on the shelf. Its in a bright blue bottle thats round at the top and square at the base. It’s sort of fancy but don’t worry the price doesn’t match the bottle. When I cracked this one open I got an uppercut to the nose from a heavy dose of Juniper but behind the Juniper are strong notes of orange citrus.
  • Tasting Notes: Bluecoat is crafted using organic juniper berries and organic American citrus peels, giving it a bright, earthy, spicy juniper flavor. This is one of those gins you’ll either really love or really hate. It’s heavy and bold on both the Juniper and the Citrus but don’t get me wrong this one’s pretty smooth. In fact its one of the smoothest gins I’ve ever had, but the balance in my opinion makes it a great choice for citrus cocktails but maybe not so much for your traditional ones like a martini.
  • Drink Suggestions: Try this one in a Tom Collins, or maybe a Gimlet.
  • Proof: 47% ABV [94 Proof]
  • Price: $24.99 [750/ML]
  • Grade: B

Final Word: I really liked Bluecoat. It wouldn’t be my first choice for a Martini or a G&T, but to be honest I don’t drink much of either of those. If you’re a fan of more citrus forward drinks then this is a winner. Summer time entertaining for me usually means a bright and citrus gin based punch so I’ll definitely get some good use out of Bluecoat.

Q Drinks, the brand behind the dangerously good Tonic Water is officially launching the 8th flavor in their collection. We spend a lot of time fussing over the ingredients used in our cocktails but thats usually aimed at the colorful sugary stuff. Tonic water isn’t any different and it pays to use a good brand. Q Ginger Beer is made with all-natural ingredients: real ginger, organic agave, a touch of coriander, cardamom and lime. Fans of the Moscow Mule or Dark N Stormy might want to give this one a try. Check our the press release below:

The carbonated crusaders behind Q Tonic, Q Ginger and Q Club announce the nationwide release of its spectacular ginger beer: Q Ginger Beer.

Crafted to fill a void in the rapidly growing premium craft mixer market, Q Ginger Beer is the perfect match for top shelf spirits. Q Ginger Beer is spicier, more carbonated and less sweet than other ginger beers. It is made with all-natural ingredients, including tons of real ginger, a dash of organic agave, coriander, cardamom and lime.
Jordan Silbert, founder of Q Drinks, explains “I made Q Ginger Beer exactly how I wanted it: with a big ginger punch that’s almost obscenely spicy, highly carbonated, and clean and crisp rather than sickly sweet. It’s a mixer and only a mixer – exactly what your rum, vodka, and whiskey are looking for.”
Silbert created Q Drinks to make cocktails taste better with superior cocktail sodas, which often make up 2/3 of the drink. To highlight the superiority of its new flavor, Q Ginger Beer, Q Drinks developed several cocktails, including a spin on the classic Moscow Mule with a tribute to the brand’s Brooklyn roots, the Brighton Beach Mule.
